Essay of my view of multimedia and technology
Multimedia module gave me a new art experience of relatively new art field that is now highly developing and many artists started to work with multimedia and technology. For first time, I was not sure, if the multimedia can actually be called as one of types of art, because it is something different and incomparable to classical art fields like painting, drawing or sculpturing. It is not something you could actually touch. But after some of sample illustrations, like works of Golan Levin (Yellowtail - my favorite one) or earth movement project, I realized that it is also kind of art, maybe one which influences and emotionalize people-viewers even more than the other ones. It is not same feeling like to look at some painting on the wall, but you as a viewer actually make your experience with this medial piece of art. As a big plus of this art is certainly better accessibility of multimedia to the viewer. When you put your piece of work on Internet, practically whole world can see your work.
Thing that I really appreciated on this module was trying to make my own media project. Especially working with photos was always interesting for me.. I was surprised how good projects other people made. Our project (I was working with my partner Sarah) was critiqued a lot, but critique always helps to improve your skills and learn from mistakes. Our project was not one of the best, but as a creator I like the way we did it.
Besides using multimedia as artistic tool, in today’s world are multimedia and technologies used to make human’s lives easier. Everybody experiences telematic interactions practically everyday, however he or she doesn’t even realize. Technology already saves our lives in hospitals, enables us to communicate for long distances in whatever time you want and with whoever you want.
Actually, I would be more happy if media and technology would be used more for the artistic purposes than for the other things, like globalization of world and making intelligent machines that are supposed to make our lives “easier”. I think, that people shouldn’t rely on technology, however they already do. I just hope that all the movies with interaction of humans and artificial intelligence will never become realistic, because I would not like to live in world like these ones. In my worst dreams I could believe that technology could be once human’s way to the destruction.
